Found a finished loop that starts at someone else's door? Click the spot you set off from. On a loop the route is rotated, start and finish move together and the distance stays the same. An open route is trimmed from the point you pick.

How to change the start of a GPX route

Load a GPX or KML file
Drop the downloaded file into the editor. The route appears on the map straight away.

Use the Change start action
In the Edit route panel pick Change start, then click the point you want to set off from. The editor snaps to the nearest route point.

Export the edited GPX
Download the file and import it into Garmin Connect, Strava or Komoot.
Frequently asked questions
Does the distance change?+
No. On a closed loop the points are only rotated, so the kilometres stay the same. The editor also closes the loop properly even when the original file left a gap between start and finish.
What if the route is not a loop?+
An open route cannot be rotated, so everything before the point you pick is dropped and the route gets shorter. To keep only a section between two points, use the Crop action instead.
Why did my device navigate me to the original start?+
Watches and bike computers navigate from the beginning of the course. If that beginning is somewhere else, the device leads you there first. Moving the start to your own point ends that.
Are elevation, waypoints and times kept?+
Yes. The elevation profile and waypoints stay. If the route carried timestamps, the editor rebuilds the timeline so it runs smoothly from the new start.
Do I need an account?+
No. The editor is free and needs no sign-up; an uploaded file is kept for 24 hours. With a free account the route stays saved without expiry.
